LAS VEGAS — Boxing fans have wanted Terence Crawford to face a significant opponent with stakes attached to it. 

That happens on Saturday from the Michelob Ultra Arena when Crawford looks to defend the WBO welterweight title for the sixth time against mandatory challenger and former two-time welterweight titlist Shawn Porter. 

Crawford (37-0, 28 KOs) moved up to 147 pounds after becoming the undisputed junior welterweight champion in August 2017. He won the WBO belt in his first welterweight fight against Jeff Horn. He’s been in search of the signature fight with the elite of the division, but boxing politics have played a major role in that not happening. So finally, Crawford got what he’s been longing for when the WBO ordered him to face Porter since he was the No. 1 contender, and here we are. 

Porter (31-3, 17 KOs) earned the shot by going 5-1 in his last six. The sole defeat came to unified champion Errol Spence Jr. in one of the best fights of 2019. In his most recent outing, Porter dominated in beating Sebastian Formella via unanimous decision in August 2020.
