A woman was killed and several people were injured, including three critically, after a tornado tore through Hale County and left a trail of damage across west-central and southwest Alabama on Thursday.
The first confirmed tornado touched down around 2 p.m. Thursday near Sawyerville, in Hale County, according to the National Weather Service’s Birmingham office.
A woman died after the tornado hit her home, Hale County Coroner Howard Paige told AL.com.
Hale County EMA Director Russell Weeden said three people were critically injured and five others suffered minor injuries in the tornado.
Also in Sawyerville, a mobile home was shifted off its foundation and two trucks were thrown into a pond, according to to radar analyst Bryan Wilson:

A tornado was also confirmed near Duncanville in Tuscaloosa County, according to the NWS.
The damage comes as severe storms were moving across parts of west-central and southwest Alabama as of Thursday afternoon.
Meanwhile, Jefferson County Schools delayed buses at some schools due to the severe weather.
