The agent for beloved actress Betty White says rumors surrounding the cause of White’s death last week are false and that the pop culture icon did not die after receiving a booster shot of the COVID-19 vaccine. In a statement sent to People Magazine, White’s longtime agent and friend Jeff Witjas responded to claims made on social media that White said she received a booster three days before she died.

“Betty died peacefully in her sleep at her home. People are saying her death was related to getting a booster shot three days earlier but that is not true. She died of natural causes. Her death should not be politicized — that is not the life she lived.”

Shortly after her death, users on socially media shared a false quote attributed to White that led some people to speculate the cause of White’s death.

“She never said that regarding the booster. Betty died of natural causes. She did not have the booster three days before she died,” Witjas said.

White was just 17 days shy of celebrating her 100th birthday when she died at her home. White spent more than 60 years on television and in movies, starring in hit shows like “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” and “The Golden Girls.”
