The Broncos honored the late Demaryius Thomas ahead of Sunday’s game against the Lions, days after the team’s legendary receiver died at the age of 33.

Prior to kickoff, a memorial was set up outside Empower Field at Mile High in honor of Thomas, a four-time Pro Bowler who spent eight-and-a-half years in Denver. In addition to a framed jersey and a black-and-white portrait of the late receiver, his number, 88, was featured at the center of a circular floral arrangement with candles.
Fans, as well as former Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning, were photographed Sunday by the memorial, where they paid their respects to Thomas. Several players also arrived at the game wearing No. 88 jerseys.
Inside the stadium, players took a knee beside his number, which was painted on the field. They also took a moment to observe a painting of Thomas, which was crafted by an artist early in the day.

The Broncos, who selected Thomas 22nd overall in the 2010 NFL draft, honored him in the game’s opening moments by taking the field with 10 men. Thomas’ former team, the Jets, also had a moment of silence for the late receiver Sunday.

Earlier this week, Broncos coach Vic Fangio told the media that there would be a moment of silence, with players wearing No. 88 decals on their helmets.
“There’s still 10 players on this team that played with him,” Fangio told reporters, per the Broncos’ website. “A bunch of coaches that coached him, including [running backs coach] Curtis Modkins, who recruited him to Georgia Tech and was one of his college coaches besides being on the staff here in 2018 with him. We have over 40 workers in the organization and the support staff that were around him,” Fangio said.
Thomas, a Super Bowl 50 champion, died Thursday at his Roswell, Ga., residence. His family later told the Associated Press that they believe he died from a seizure.
“He had been suffering from seizures for over a year, and we believe he had a seizure when he was showering,” Thomas’ first cousin, LaTonya Bonseigneur, said to AP.

In the wake of Thomas’ death, tributes have poured in from the NFL community, including a heartbreaking message from Tom Brady.
“We were all blessed with his humility and positive spirit, and we will all miss him,” Brady wrote on Friday, calling Thomas “a source of light.”
Im so sad to wake up this morning to hear about the passing of my friend Demariyus Thomas. We were all blessed with his humility and positive spirit, and we will all miss him. This photo is from the Hall of Fame this past August, a source of light as always. 🙏 RIP pic.twitter.com/o3hvQN0cRz
