The Louis Vuitton store and other high-end retailers in San Francisco’s Union Square were robbed Friday night and police said multiple suspects were arrested.

The San Francisco Police Department said in a statement it responded to reports of possible looting and vandalism at several retail establishments in the Union Square area at 8:10 p.m. Additional officers were called to the scene to address reports of crime.

The alleged thieves smashed windows, leaving piles of shattered glass across the sidewalk of the store that’s adjacent to the Macy’s department store.

The incident occurred around 8 p.m. and video footage posted on social media showed a chaotic scene with police running after suspects. One video posted by Twitter user @CARLITOSGUEY showed a man obscuring his face with masks and running from the store with merchandise in his arms.

Twitter user @Yealenne posted a video at 8:25 p.m. of the shattered store window and commented, “The Louis Vuitton in San Francisco union square just got emptied out.”

District 3 Sup. Aaron Peskin told KTVU that six suspects were arrested by the police department’s Central Station officers. Peskin, who represents the Union Square neighborhood, said police did “great work.”

KTVU reported that Fendi, Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana were also impacted.

The area of Stockton and Geary streets was temporarily closed Friday night as police responded to the incident.
