A teenage New Jersey girl whose disappearance a month ago sparked off a desperate search in the region was found safe, authorities announced Thursday.
Jashyah Moore, 14, of East Orange was located in New York City, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement.
“Jashyah is currently safe and is being provided all appropriate services,” the statement said. “She will be returned to NJ shortly. No additional information is available at this time.”
Acting Prosecutor Theodore N. Stevens will hold a press conference Friday morning with additional details.
Rewards totaling $20,000 were being offered in the search for Jashyah, who vanished on a visit to Poppie’s Deli near her home on Oct. 14, according to ABC 7 New York.
Surveillance video showed Jashyah enter the deli with an older man who helped pay for her items. The man cooperated with police, reports said.
Jaime Moore, Jashyah’s mother, had taken to the streets of East Orange earlier Thursday to hand out fliers and as she looked for information from a passersby, ABC said.
“It’s been a month, and I’m still praying and I’m hopeful that my daughter will be returned to me safely,” Moore said.
